Hobbs Parks and Rec Dept. is offering Belly Dancing Classes on Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 6-7 p.m. for beginners and 7:15-8:15 p.m. for intermediate students. If you or someone you know is dealing with depression and/or bipolar disorder, attend a free support group meeting each week on Tuesday at 7 p.m. at First Baptist Church, 300 E. Cain St. in Hobbs. This free gathering is held in the Church's Troutt Annex.
Hobbs Downtown Lions Club is asking people to gather up used glasses, prescription and non-prescription sunglasses and donate them to the "Lions Recycle for Sight" program. The City of Hobbs' Residential Cleanup continues! Have your items out by the curb by 8 a.m. on the scheduled Saturday for free pickup. If you need help getting large items to curbside, call the Parks and Rec Dept. at 392-9292 by the Wednesday before pickup date. The next cleanup dates are set for Oct. 8 for residents who live from Sanger North to the city limites and west of Fowler to city limites, and on Nov. 5 for residents who live from Sanger North to city limites and East of Fowler to city limits. Hobbs Band Boosters will hold a tailgate fundraiser before each home football game at Watson Stadium in the East Side Parking Lot. Starting a bout 5:30 p.m. on game nights, you can buy a hamburger fresh off the grill, with the trimmings you want, plus chips and a cold drink for just $5. Proceeds help the band with travel, uniforms, contests and instrument costs not paid by the school. (Nov. 18)
Hobbs Public Library will host Fall Story Hour Programs for children at the library, 509 N. Shipp St. All programs are free. Story hour for ages 3-6 will be held on Wednesday from 10:10 a.m. - 11 a.m. and 2-3 p.m. Story hour on Friday from 10:10 a.m. - 11 a.m. is also for ages 3-6. The Tuesday two classes will be from 10:05 a.m. - 10:35 a.m. each Tuesday for 2 year olds only.
